Lee Roy Selmon's life story blends the benefits of football scholarship with volunteerism in the community. First, the Selmon family. Lucious Selmon was the father of Jessie Selmon. They raised nine children on an Eufala farm. Two, football. He is one of the three brothers that were players for Oklahoma. Three of them were All-Americans. They made the All-America team in 1973. Lee Roy and Lucious Jr. Dewey were the starters for one year. Lee Roy won the Outland and Lombardi Awards as the nation's best lineman. For three years, Oklahoma was 32-1-1 with Roy being the starting player. Also, they won two national championships. Third scholarship he was named an National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete in 1975. Selmon received a bachelor's diploma from the University of California in Berkeley. Lee Roy spent ten hours per week volunteering during his college years. Following college, he moved to Tampa played nine years with the Buccaneers was all-pro three times and started an entrepreneurial career. He began his career in 1988. began working as an Account Relations Officer for First Florida Bank in Tampa. He worked for the Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute and the Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. In 1982 the Junior Chamber of Commerce recognized Lee Roy as being among Ten of America's top young males. Lee Roy weighed 256 lbs and stood at a height of 6'2 inches. In his time at college, he commanded the 1975 team. In 1993, he was named as associate director at the University of South Florida. He was named to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1988, and the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame in 1994 the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1995. The Selmons' parents Lucious and Mary Selmon Jr. have been awarded the Distinguished American Award in 1989 from the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation. Henry Bellmon is the Oklahoma governor who made this presentation.
